Makati Medical Center Proudly Honors Our Nurses with The DAISY Award
The DAISY Foundation established the DAISY Award in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at 33 of Immune Thrombocytopenia (ITP), an autoimmune disease. The Barnes Family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring, and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, so they created this international award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.
Last June 3, 2022, The MakatiMed’s DAISY Award Committee held its 1st DAISY Award Ceremony at the Ledesma Hall, 9th Floor, Tower 1. With the help of the DAISY Foundation and the Selection Committee, members for Cycle 1 Dr. Artemio Salvador, Ms. Bita Avendaño, and Dr. Ma. Rosario Marin, the institution, presented the 6 DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses for the first cycle. Ms. Bonnie Barnes, Co-Founder of the DAISY Foundation, grace the event virtually. Ms. Eda Bernadette Bodegon gave the DAISY Award Ceremony overview, followed by the Welcoming remarks of the Medical Director, Dr. Saturnino P. Javier.
The award ceremony was attended by the corporate and clinical leaders and the different members of the division of Nursing and Patient Care Services and Service Operations. Teamwork was evident, and the program will not be possible without the support and collaboration from the Quality Management Division (QMD), Creative Communication and Sales Services (CCSS), Human Resource and Management, and Information and Communications Technology.
Nominees of the different nursing groups and divisions were initially presented and followed by sharing of patient stories.

Ms. Mary Anne Robles (Vascular& Lymphedema), Ms. Gian Carla Baldonado-Laquihon (Delivery Room), Mr. Hans Christian Saludares (Emergency Nursing Services), and Ms. Ma. Cecilia Paje (Cancer Center), Mr. Erick John Bellosillo (9th Wing), and Mr. Peter John Colobong (7th Rear) are the first six recipients of the DAISY Award. They received the DAISY Award certificate, a DAISY Honoree Pin, and The Healer’s Touch Sculpture, representing the bond between nurses and patients. They will also receive benefits and opportunities from the DAISY Foundation. The honorees also got cinnamon rolls, which are a thank you from Pat to his nurses and a reminder that nursing is a real “team sport” and a way to celebrate as a group.
The DAISY Committee was led by Ms. Eda Bernadette Bodegon, NPCS Director and Chief Nursing Officer, the DAISY Coordinators, Dr. Artemio Salvador of QMD and Ms. Brigitte Garcia of NERD, and the DAISY Core Team, which also included Mr. Daryl Jeremiah Gaba of NPCS, Ms. Nikki Dizon-Reyes, and Mr. Daniel Ricio of CCSS. Rommel Alegre Jr., Cherryl Decripito, Camille De Guzman, Darren Benedict Reyes, Farrah Visey, Benneth Daus, Marian Nicholas Torres III, and Goldamier Francisco serve as DAISY Champions.
The event was concluded by MakatiMed’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Atty. Pilar Nenuca Almira. She expressed her enthusiasm and support for this event, as well as her determination to continue supporting such programs for nurses and showcasing the patient experience.
