At the heart of every hospital is a team of dedicated nurses whose compassion and commitment bring comfort and healing to patients each day. In celebration of International Nurses’ Day – held this year on May 14 under the global theme “Caring for Nurses Strengthens Economies” – MakatiMed proudly joined the worldwide tribute, highlighting our own theme: “Compassion in Action: Nurses at the Heart of Care.” This special occasion honored the vital role nurses play not only as skilled professionals, but as pillars of empathy, strength, and unwavering support for patients and their families.
In collaboration with the Department of Laboratory and Pathology, the day began with a Mass Blood Donation Drive open to all MMC employees and external donors. The Nursing and Patient Care Services (NPCS) Leaders also prepared a variety of relaxing activities and thoughtful treats for our nurses. A livelihood bazaar was held at the 8th Floor Auditorium, Tower 2, featuring an array of food, beverages, accessories, and handmade trinkets. Meanwhile, a Thanksgiving Mass at Ledesma Hall, Tower 1, offered a moment of reflection on the global impact of nursing, expressing deep gratitude for our healthcare heroes and giving thanks for the lives they continue to touch.
And yes, nurses love caffeine! Free cups of freshly brewed coffee were served by But First, Coffee, along with sweet servings of Mang Felix’s Taho and delicious, decadent ice cream for all nursing staff. To top it off, NPCS partnered with Palmeo Spa and Massage to offer relaxing body massages and spa services, which were warmly received, nurses happily lined up to enjoy a well-deserved moment of pampering.
While the celebration lasted just one day, the lives touched and healed by our nurses are forever changed. To all our nurses—thank you for the heart you give in everything you do. You are, and always will be, at the heart of care.
